This is a Day of Celebration

This praise song was first written to celebrate Easter. It is now written to use at ANY time of celebration. More verses are being added as time goes on and the idea is to use only what is most appropriate - NOT every verse and every chorus. It's repeated acclamations make it a good song to use with children.

There is a music score set out below the words. By clicking on the image of the score, you will be able to print sheets for your own use

General Chorus (to start)

This is a day of celebration,
This is a day for shouts of praise,
This is a day of jubilation,
Jesus, your Name we raise

General verse

Jesus, the Name above all others,
Jesus the name that brings release,
Jesus, our Saviour, our Messiah,
Jesus the Prince of Peace.

Easter verse

Jesus who from the grave has risen,
Jesus who lives to set us free,
Jesus who conquered death and Satan,
Gives us the victory.

Pentecost verse (or for any celebration of membership, for example adult baptism or confirmation)

Jesus, whose Spirit came from heaven
touching the earth with wind and fire;
filling disciples with new courage,
all nations to inspire

Chorus (especially Palm Sunday)

This is a day to cry Hosanna,
This is a day to dance and sing,
This is a day for praising Jesus,
Lift hearts and hands to Him.

Chorus (any special day)

This is a day of exultation,
This is a day of Jubilee,
This is a day to tell all nations
Jesus will set you free.

Chorus (any Festival)

This is a day to be made holy,
This is a day to greet our King
This is a day to welcome Jesus,
Giving ourselves to Him.

Chorus (any Saint’s day)

This is a day for Saints’ remembrance,
Women and men who’ve loved the Lord
And by their lives drew others to Him,
Risking a hostile world.

Chorus (for giving thanks for the earth and all that surrounds us)

This is a day for thanking Jesus
For all the beauty of the earth,
For all the wonders that surround us,
For love, for joy, for mirth.

OR use the last chorus above with minor changes as a Grace before a meal or for a HARVEST FESTIVAL

This is a day for thanking Jesus
For all the bounty of the earth,
For all the wonders that surround us,
For food, for love, for mirth

Ten thousand billion suns - A scintilla of God’s Universe

Ten thousand billion suns - A scintilla of God’s Universe
It is currently thought that the Universe has at least 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars! Hence the use of the word ‘scintilla’ for a mere ten thousand billion.

This beautiful head of roses in our garden, which are giving off a delightful perfume in the morning sun, seems a fitting picture to link to the sonnet 'Evolution and Beauty'. Let the picture take you there. It is a surprise because it is growing high on a bush of otherwise pure yellow roses: amazing!
